Five of our brave colleagues faced the heat at , walking barefoot across hot embers to raise more than 拢800 for Derwen Charity.
Justine Bradey, Claire Edge, Sue Lake, Cath Cyples and Katie Hindle took part in the professionally organised fire walk on Saturday 28 March, pushing themselves well outside their comfort zones for a cause close to their hearts.
Every penny raised will help Derwen Charity provide extra opportunities, skills and experiences that support young people with SEND to build confidence and independence.
Bryony Wesson, Fundraiser at mv天美mv天美, said:
鈥淚 want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to everyone for embracing the fire walk challenge, and an even greater thank you for the incredible funds they鈥檝e raised. It was truly amazing to see the excitement and sense of achievement afterwards.鈥
For participant Justine Bradey, the experience was dramatic, daring and empowering.
鈥淲alking on fire gave me the rush I was looking for without the terror of heights,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 dramatic, it鈥檚 daring and, most importantly, it鈥檚 at sea level. I鈥檓 thrilled to have raised funds for Derwen Charity, and I鈥檓 so grateful to everyone who sponsored me. Crossing those embers really helped me stop talking myself out of things. My new mantra is just do it!鈥
Cath Cyples said the challenge surprised her in unexpected ways.
鈥淚t鈥檚 really weird to describe. I felt nothing the first time,鈥 she said. 鈥淭he second time was more painful because I didn鈥檛 focus as much, but I did it twice. It was challenging, but really empowering.鈥
The day was also supported by Connor Barker, whose younger sister Amy is a student at mv天美mv天美. Connor ran a tombola stall at the event as he is currently training for the London Marathon after securing a charity place through Derwen Charity. He is aiming to raise 拢2,000.
The firewalk event supported six local charities and attracted hundreds of spectators, alongside activities including live music, stalls, axe throwing, archery and refreshments.
Thank you so much to our brilliant fire walkers and to Whittington Castle for putting on this fabulous event.
