Health and wellbeing are an important part of learning for students at College. Which is why our nursing team hold regular workshops in addition to day-to-day health needs.
This week鈥檚 workshop, on , saw students participating in various activities and quizzes. These highlighted different food groups and the significance of a balanced diet. We were encouraged to discuss our health openly, even talking about the sometimes embarrassing topics of wee and poo. Students learned to recognise signs of poor nutrition and understood how crucial water is for their bodies.
Among the enthusiastic participants were Horticulture students Kaitland and Louise. Louise shared her excitement, saying, 鈥淲e鈥檝e learnt a lot about food and drink, and the importance of keeping hydrated, especially as the weather gets hotter.鈥 听Kaitland added: 鈥淰egetables are important. I like runner beans!鈥 With their newfound knowledge and horticulture skills, we can’t wait to see them grow their own vegetables soon!
Lead Nurse Phoebe Irvine-Shuter was thrilled with the turnout and participation. 鈥淲e鈥檝e had many students taking part today, joining in with the activities. We set up tasks to help students take responsibility for their own health. It鈥檚 important not to shy away from talking about our bodies. We hope we made the issues fun while also teaching about good nutrition and hydration and how it can affect our bodies,鈥 she said.
Looking ahead, the nursing team has more exciting workshops planned, covering topics such as oral health, men鈥檚 health, and women鈥檚 health. We鈥檒l keep for more updates on how our students are learning to take charge of their health and well-being!
