In 1900 Agnes opened ‘The Baschurch Home’, Florence House in Baschurch, as a convalescent home for 鈥榗rippled鈥� children. Here she extolled the benefits of open-air treatment.
“…humble beginning of the first open-air Orthopaedic Hospital of the world”.
Patients slept in open-fronted sheds in the grounds of the Baschurch Home. Even through the harshest of winters, the patients remained in the open-air sheds, tucked up with hot water bottles and layers of blankets.
鈥淭he hospital was primitive, extremely uncomfortable and supremely cheerful鈥�.
By听1903 she had formed a partnership with Robert Jones, a renowned orthopaedic surgeon, based in Liverpool. 听Agnes Hunt and Robert Jones devoted their knowledge and skill, to the service of the 鈥榗rippled鈥� and led to the development of the听Orthopaedic Hospital, Oswestry.
